Key Purpose of the Role:
The primary objective of this role is to train the incumbent as a qualified tradesman, enabling them to gain knowledge and experience as an artisan in their chosen trade.
Key Outputs and Responsibilities:
– Complete the 3-4 year apprentice program as per company/SETA requirements.
– Maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
– Comply with all safety, health, and environmental procedures and legislation.
– Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
– Acquire knowledge and experience through training.
– Locate plant, equipment, spares, and relevant documentation/systems.
– Plan, budget, and prepare for jobs.
– Evaluate and repair breakdowns and conduct maintenance.
– Continuously improve (optimize) plant, process equipment, and systems.
– Develop machine-specific technical competence.

– Engineering aptitude.
– An owner mindset is desirable but not essential.
– Ability to work effectively in teams and independently.
– Self-driven, motivated, and action-oriented.
– Mental alertness, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
– Coaching ability.
– Attention to detail.

– Desire to grow competence and capability.
– Physically fit with good vision and not color blind.
– Flexible working arrangements (e.g., shift work, overtime).
– Willingness to attend periods of training in Johannesburg.
Minimum Requirements:
– Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
– National Technical Certificate (N4) to complete a program in the relevant trade:
– Instrumentation
– A higher qualification in the relevant engineering discipline (N5/N6 would be advantageous).
